Dean Ángel Gabriel Fuentes was born in San Juan and raised in the little town of Naranjito, Puerto Rico. His professional journey spans over two decades, and includes teaching undergraduate Math and Science courses at Arizona State University, University of Advancing Technology, Chandler-Gilbert Community College, and Ohlone College. After Hurricane Georges destroyed the power system in Puerto Rico in 1998, Dean Fuentes became mesmerized by the beautiful, light pollution free views of stars, planets, and the Milky Way. Due to his contributions to astronomy education and outreach, the International Astronomical Union honored Dean Fuentes with the naming of asteroid 1998TL34 as asteroid (28148) Fuentes. Beyond the classroom, Dean Fuentes can be found playing video games with his nephews, cooking, traveling, and strength and mass training. A self-proclaimed “old school gamer”, his favorite games include Legend of Zelda, the Civilization game series, League of Legends, and Call of Duty. |
