My education and research have focused on wildlife biology and ecology, often looking at how species interact through seed dispersal, pollination, and herbivory. I have had the opportunity to work with many different groups of animals including insects, birds, and mammals, in the field and lab.

I taught Environmental Science and General Biology at Santa Barbara City College for many years, chairing the Environmental Studies program for 17 years and Biology Department for 3 years.
In 2022 I had the opportunity to move back to Monterey where I grew up and that prompted the change from SBCC to Evergreen Valley College where I teach General Biology and Field courses.

Nature

For many years I was involved in developing sustainable practices at SBCC and in the Santa Barbara community while involving my students in the effort. I founded and directed the Center for Sustainability at SBCC and served as a board member at the Center for Urban Agriculture at Fairview Gardens and the Community Environmental Council. Over 17 years my students designed and implemented over 100 projects on campus and in the community.

I love bringing students into the field so that they can experience nature and develop the skills to go on their own.

When I’m not teaching, I love to travel and collect images and video of nature that I use in my courses.

At home I am often working on my house and yard and developing my skills with wood and leather work.
