Administration of Justice
The Administration of Justice “AJ” Program prepares students in law, justice, public policy, or the private sector. If you are interested in the study of justice and the law or want to work in law enforcement, the courts, corrections, forensic science, social services, public policy, or private security and protection, this major is for you. Likewise, if you are interested in earning a two-year degree or want to transfer to a four-year college/university or technical training institute, the program meets your goals as well.
Moreover, if you want to enrich your understanding of how the law works in a pluralistic society, the AJ program is the right place for you!
AJ is a unique program emphasizing academic and career education that prepares students for fields of justice, law, social/non-profit work, non-profit, public policy, and private sector careers in law enforcement, the courts, corrections, forensic science, social services, public advocacy, and private security and corporate protection.
Mission:
The Mission of the AJ Program is to provide quality education to prepare a student’s academic or professional goals in law, justice, public policy, or private sector careers.
The AJ Program accomplishes this mission by focusing on core competencies in Effective Communication, Critical Inquiry, Information Literacy, Social and Cultural Competency, and Ethical Intelligence. It is through these core competencies, that students will be best prepared to meet educational and workforce demands in the 21st century.
Program Goals:
- Prepare students for transfer to a four-year college/university or technical training institution.
- Prepare students for workforce entry, including but not limited to, the police academy, probation academy, corrections academy, forensic science, or other career technical school related to law and justice.
- Provide quality education for students seeking to enrich their knowledge and understanding
of the law and justice in a global society.
The AJ Program accomplishes its goals by ensuring a student-centered learning environment where access, opportunity and inclusion are core values and student education is our top priority.
Students completing this program will be able to:
- Demonstrate effective written and oral communication necessary in the criminal justice or legal field.
- Interpret and analyze information, concepts, and theories of the criminal justice or legal system from multiple perspectives.
- Apply and integrate terminology, concepts, and practices related to law enforcement, the courts, corrections, or legal/public policy systems.
- Evaluate ideas, values, and indicators of multiculturalism in the context and study of law, society, and justice.
- Analyze beliefs, thoughts, and/or actions that are rooted in civility, social responsibility,
and professional ethos.
Community Service Officer
Students interested in joining law enforcement can take four courses from our Community Service Officer Certificate. Two of these courses can also lead to a degree-- Intro to Administration of Justice (AJ 010) and Contemporary Police Issues (AJ 014).
Transfer to a UC / CSU
Many of our students continue their studies at a CSU or UC campus. Students looking to pursue a career in Administration of Justion or justice studies in law enforcement typically transfer to a CSU. Students interested in law, public policy, or other justice careers typically transfer to a CSU or UC.
If you enroll in an Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) program at EVC, you can transfer to a CSU with half of your Bachelor’s degree completed.
