Land Acknowledgement.

We acknowledge that we gather at Evergreen Valley College on the unceded aboriginal homeland of the Tamien Nation, past, present, and future.

We honor with gratitude the Tamien People who teach us that our relationship with the land is reciprocal, and we must work in unison to keep the world in balance.

As educators we believe in the power of words and make this land acknowledgement as a commitment to partner and advocate for a more equitable and inclusive future.

Evergreen Valley College & Tamien Nation Mutual Commitments

“akkuy miSimpiy”: Enter in a good way.

We come together out of mutual respect to build community and improve the quality of life for all living beings.

“ursehne”: In the process of  learning.

We come together to celebrate indigeneity through education and visibility of the colonial politics, policies, and practices that have historically reinforced acculturation and the erasure of Indigenous identities and lifeways.

“himmentak”: Joining together.

We come together to meaningfully move beyond just performative statements by elevating and actively supporting the unique and shared goals between our communities.
