Placement on academic/progress probation should be taken very seriously because it can delay a students' educational journey.
EVC's academic probation and dismissal policy is intended to encourage students to take the necessary action to be successful. General Counselors will provide you with the necessary tools to get back on track.
Evergreen Valley College Probation & Dismissal Policy
Academic Probation and Dismissal
After attempting 12 units, a student with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) below 2.0 shall be placed on Academic Probation 1.
If a student’s cumulative GPA remains below 2.0 after the second semester, the student shall be placed on Academic Probation 2.
If a student’s cumulative GPA remains below 2.0 after the third semester, the student shall be placed on Academic Dismissal.
Progress Probation and Dismissal
After attempting 12 units, a student who earns marks of “W”, “I”, “NC” and “NP” for 50% or more of all attempted units shall be placed on Progress Probation 1.
If a student’s cumulative percentage of “W”, “I”, “NC” and “NP” marks reaches or exceeds 50% of all attempted units after the second semester, the student shall be placed on Progress Probation 2.
If a student’s cumulative percentage of “W”, “I”, “NC” and “NP” marks reaches or exceeds 50% of all attempted units after the third semester, the student shall be placed on Progress Dismissal and will be subsequently dismissed from the college.
Loss of Priority Registration and California College Promise Grant Eligibility
Students on Academic or Progress Probation 2 or any combination thereof shall lose their priority registration and California College Promise Grant (CCPG) eligibility. The loss of priority registration and CCPG eligibility shall remain in effect until the student is no longer on probation or the student has successfully appealed their status. Foster Youth, as defined in Education Code 66025.9(b), shall not be subject to loss of the CA Promise Grant under section 58621.
Students may appeal their loss of priority registration for the following reasons:
- Extenuating Circumstances: Verified cases of accidents, illnesses, or other circumstances beyond the student's control
- Students with disabilities who applied for, but didn't received accommodation in a timely manner
- Significant academic improvement.
Students may appeal their loss of the California College Promise Grant for the following reasons:
- Changes to their economic situation.
- Evidence student was unable to obtain essential support services.
- Special consideration of factors for EOPS, DSPS, CALWORKS and Veteran students.
Students will be notified early in the current semester of their opportunity to appeal; decisions will be emailed prior to the beginning of registration for the next semester.

Students on Dismissal
Students on Dismissal will have an institutional hold placed on their record. Although they can continue in EVC courses for which they have already enrolled, they will not be able to register for future courses unless they meet with an academic counselor and receive approval for reinstatement.
Reinstatement after Dismissal
Students on Dismissal may submit a Petition for Reinstatement. These petitions are evaluated by an academic counselor, who may approve or deny reinstatement. Additionally, the counselor may specify adjustments to the student's educational plan, a unit limitation, or a waiting period of one semester before reinstatement. Approved petitions are valid for one semester only. Students who are reinstated will continue to be on dismissal status if their performance does not meet the minimum academic standards outlined in the previous section.

Probation 1
Students should schedule a Probation/Dismissal Counseling Appointment to meet with an academic counselor to discuss their standing and develop or update their education plan (Ed Plan).
Please note: Students in special programs should contact the program directly to make a counseling appointment.
Probation 2
Students should schedule a Probation/Dismissal Counseling Appointment to meet with an academic counselor to discuss their standing and develop or update their education plan (Ed Plan).
Please note: Students in special programs should contact the program directly to make a counseling appointment.
Students on Probation 2 may lose their priority registration and California College Promise Grant Eligibility. Those affected should review the Appeal Process.
Dismissal
