Downloading and Installing the EVC Letterhead Word Template


Note: You only need to download and install the Template once.
Note: Safari users should use Firefox, as Safari saves the template to a .txt file format which destroys the template formatting properties.

  1. Direct a web browser such as IE or Firefox to
    http://www.evc.edu/marketing/style_guide.htm#letterhead
  2. Right click on Download Letterhead Word Template if you are using a Windows-based system; if you are using a Mac, hold down the ctrl key and simultaneously click on Download Letterhead Word Template.
  3. Click Save Target As if you are using Internet Explorer or Save Link As if you are using Firefox.
  4. Save the template to the Microsoft Office Template directory: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates for Windows XP systems (where username is your username for your computer), C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates for Windows Vista systems (where username is your username for your computer) or, if you are using a Mac with Office 2004 installed, save to Applications, Microsoft Office 2004, Templates, My Templates.

Note: If you are using Windows Vista and do not see the AppData folder, click in the top rectangle of the download box and manually enter the path information.
Note: If you are using Windows XP and do not see all the folders listed for the path for the Microsoft Templates directory, you may need to view hidden files:

    1. Select start, then My Computer.
    2. Select Tools, then Folder Options.
    3. Select the View tab.
    4. Under Hidden Files and Folders, select Show Hidden Files and Folders.
    5. Click OK.
    6. Repeat steps 1 through 4 above.
  1. Click Save.

Creating a Document Using the EVC Letterhead Word Template

To create a new document using the EVC Letterhead template:
Microsoft Word 2003

  1. Select File, then New.
  2. From the New Document Task pane, under Templates select On my computer.
  3. In the Templates window select the General tab.
  4. Select letterhead.dot then select Create New Document.
  5. Click OK.

Microsoft Word 2007

  1. Click the Office Button in the upper left corner and select New.
  2. From the Templates pane, select My templates.
  3. From the Templates window, select letterhead.dot then select Create New Document.
  4. Click OK.

Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac

  1. Select File, then Project Gallery.
  2. Select My Templates in the Groups section, select letterhead.dot then click Open.
