Introduction
  • Music and Movies have been around for centuries.
  • Music began in nature and inspired man to create organized sounds and use them to entertain.
  • Movies were first shown in a zoetrope, a cylinder object that contains paper with images and holes on the walls for viewing.

Movies on Old Media
  • Movies are made by using film and motion picture cameras.
  • It costs millions of dollars to make one movie.
  • A movie crew consists of hundreds of people.
  • They often take months to shoot one movie because of the locations.
4
Movies on the Internet
  • Movies are also shown on internet websites.
  • Youtube.com is an example of a website that lets people watch and share movies and TV shows.
  • Users can download movies off of programs such as, Napster and Kazaa.

5
Movies on Internet vs. on Film
  • Movie downloads help the customers stay home and enjoy their new movie, while buying them at the stores give the movies better qualities than downloading.
  • Downloading without paying is stealing, and can cause someone to pay fines or go to jail.  Buying DVDs can be a hassle if there are many people shopping.

6
Music on Old Media
  • Music is played on instruments, CDs, and cassette tapes.
  • Music artists spend lots of time to record their songs in studios.
  • Artists and record companies make money off of sales.
7
Music on New Media
  • Illegal download of music doesn’t help music artists because the downloads are free.

  • Music is stored directly onto a user’s PC.

  • MP3 players are popular because of music downloads.
8
CDs vs. Mp3s
  • CDs have songs that people have never heard of, but MP3 players can store people’s favorite songs.
  • CD players are larger than MP3 players, so MP3 players are easier to carry around.
9
Conclusion
  • Not all internet downloads are illegal, as long as people pay for the movies or music that they are downloading.
  • Some companies are trying to prevent users from illegally downloading from the internet, but they are not very successful because there are still programs that are being used to obtain downloads.
