What is MAEP?
  • What is the Metropolitan Adult Education Program (MAEP) and how does it work?
    MAEP is a unit of the Metropolitan Education District (MetroED), and offers adult education classes for free or at a very low-cost. The classes are convenient, accessible, and have flexible schedules to meet the family and work needs of adults.

Mission
  • What is the Mission of Metropolitan Adult Education Program?
    The mission of the MAEP is to provide a caring environment that enables students to achieve their fullest potential while developing, in a diverse society, both a strong sense of community and a love of lifelong learning.

ClassTime & Location
  • Mondays – Fridays from 12:30-4 p.m.
  • At 760 Hillsdale Avenue, San Jose, CA

Project Shine Hours
  • I volunteered 20 hours this semester.
  • 10 hours were used for credit in Library 15.
  • 10 hours were used for credit in Ethnic Studies 40.

Student Population
  • Students came from a diverse age and ethnic background.
  • The countries represented were Ethiopia, China, Mexico, El Salvador, Somalia, Russia, Iran, Vietnam, Korea, Japan, Cambodia, and the Marshall Islands.

Benefits
  • I was able to help struggling students follow instructions.
  • I provided one-on-one practice in the areas of English pronunciation, listening, and grammar.
  • I assisted the teacher in managing groups of students with different language abilities.
