  • -Default image, albums, and post pictures on your page

  • -Leave comments, receive comments, picture comments, and delete comments

  • -Send friend request, receive request, approve and deny friend requests

  • -A song can be played well a friend is viewing your profile and music videos can be put into your profile

How Myspace Works

  • You join Myspace and create a profile.


  • You invite your friends to join Myspace and search Myspace for your friends who are already members. These people become part of your initial “Friend Space”.


  • All of the people in your friends’ Friend Space become part of your network. You now have connections to more people than you did 15 minutes ago.

  • Children don’t think twice about giving out personal information

  • 14 or older to register
  • Profiles with the ages 14-15 are set private automatically
  • Myspace asks for personal information: name, address, zip code, birth date, gender, and e-mail

Myspace and the Internet
  • Many schools and public libraries in the Untied States have blocked access to Myspace, because it has become “such a haven for students’ gossip and malicious comments.”
  • The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reported 1,224 incidents last year of “online enticement” of children by adults and estimates that one in five children get sexual solicitations online, according to a Washington Post report.
  • There have been numerous cases of face to face meeting arranged on Myspace that have turned bad.
  • According to Alison Kiss, program director for Security on Campus, social networking websites such as Myspace have made it easier for stalkers who target women on college campuses.
